Description
Grilled asparagus with foil (and dipping sauce!) is easy, zesty and delicious. Asparagus is tossed with olive oil, salt, and pepper, then grilled to perfection inside a neat little aluminum foil packet, with a squirt of fresh lemon and a simple dipping sauce on the side. Plus, cleanup? Basically non-existent!
Ingredients
EQUIPMENT
Aluminum foil + grill. (See FAQS on how to cook asparagus in the oven)
INGREDIENTS
1 lb fresh asparagus
2-3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
freshly ground black pepper
2-3 teaspoons lemon juice
FOR THE DIPPING SAUCE
3-4 tablespoon mayonnaise
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
Instructions
1. Prep the Asparagus: Trim 1 ½ – 2 inches off the bottom of each asparagus stalk to remove the woody part.

2 . Assemble the Packets: Tear off a sheet of aluminum foil and place about 4-6 asparagus spears in a single layer per packet. Don’t overcrowd them—give them space to cook evenly. Drizzle with olive oil, then season with salt and black pepper. Fold the foil over the asparagus, sealing the edges to create a secure packet.

3. Grill: Preheat your gas grill to 400°F. Place the foil packets on the grill and cook for 5-6 minutes per side, flipping once.
4. Rest and Serve: Let the asparagus rest for 5 minutes. Carefully open the packets (watch out for steam!) and squeeze fresh lemon juice over the top for a zesty pop of flavor.
5. Whip Up the Dipping Sauce: In a small bowl, stir together mayonnaise, garlic powder, and a squirt of lemon juice. Serve alongside the asparagus for a creamy, garlicky dip.

Notes
Don’t overcrowd the foil packets – Keep it to about 4 stalks per packet for even cooking.
Flip once – This ensures both sides get a delicious smoky char.
Watch the steam! – When opening the foil, be cautious of escaping hot steam.
Mix up the seasoning – Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for heat or some Parmesan cheese for extra flavor.
For a make-ahead option, prep the asparagus in foil packets a few hours before, then keep them in the fridge until ready to grill. This makes hosting a breeze—just toss them on the grill when it’s time to eat!
