Tomato purée substitute- whether you’re out of store-bought, trying to avoid additives, or just want a homemade tomato purée alternative with a richer flavor profile and that signature smooth texture, this guide has got you covered.
Ingredients
4-5 medium ripe tomatoes (Roma are best)
A small pinch of salt
A blender
Instructions
Cut an X on the bottom of each tomato.
Boil for 30 seconds, then transfer the tomatoes to an ice bath. (A bowl with water and a few ice cubes)
After a few minutes in the ice bath, peel the skins off the tomatoes and remove seeds if desired.
Blend with a pinch of salt until smooth.
Simmer to thicken if needed.
Notes
Store extra in an ice cube tray for future use!
