Description
This kiwi puree (for babies, toddlers, and adults!) is packed with vitamin C and fiber. Eat it on its own or add it to granola, yogurt, desserts, waffles, or even cocktails!
Ingredients
6 kiwi fruit
2 tablespoons maple syrup (adjust to taste)
1 teaspoon fresh mint (chopped)
1 teaspoon lemon juice
KIWI PUREE FOR TODDLERS
2 ripe kiwi fruit
1 ripe banana
1 tablespoon of yogurt (optional)
Instructions
Prepare the Kiwi:
Peel the kiwi fruits, removing the brown skin. Cut them into small, even-sized chunks.
Combine Ingredients:
In a saucepan, add the kiwi chunks, maple syrup, chopped mint leaves, and fresh lemon juice. Place the saucepan on the stove over medium heat. Stir the ingredients to ensure an even distribution of flavors.
Cook on the Stove:
Cook the kiwi mixture for about 5-7 minutes or until the kiwi chunks become soft. The heat will enhance the flavors and help break down the kiwi.
Mash or Blend:
Once the kiwi chunks are soft, you have two options:
Mash with a Fork: If you prefer a chunkier texture, use a fork to mash the kiwi mixture directly in the saucepan. Mash to your desired consistency.
Use a Stick Blender: For a smoother puree, use a stick blender directly in the saucepan until you achieve the desired smoothness. Be careful not to over-blend if you want to maintain a bit of texture.
Taste and Adjust:
Taste the puree and adjust the sweetness by adding more maple syrup if needed. If it's too tart, a bit more sweetness can help balance the flavors.
Cool the Puree:
Allow the kiwi mint puree to cool to room temperature. This step is essential before transferring it to a storage container. Transfer the kiwi mint puree to an airtight container if you plan to store it in the refrigerator. Label with the date for reference.
Store or Serve:
Alternatively, use the puree immediately in your favorite recipes or as a topping for desserts, yogurt, or pancakes.
HOW TO MAKE KIWI PUREE FOR TODDLER
Prepare the fruit:
Start by peeling the kiwis. You can either use a knife or a vegetable peeler for this. Once peeled, chop the kiwi into smaller chunks.
Peel and slice the banana:
Make sure the banana is ripe for extra sweetness. Peel and slice it into smaller pieces.
Blend it up:
Place the kiwi chunks and banana slices into a blender. Blend until smooth. Add the yogurt and blend some more (optional)
Serve and enjoy!
You can serve it immediately or store it in the fridge for up to 24 hours. This puree is also easy to freeze—just portion it out into ice cube trays and freeze it for later use!
Notes
Toddler Puree: Don't add sugar. It's best to use a ripe banana or apple puree to sweeten the kiwi puree.
Choose ripe kiwis for optimal sweetness and flavor. A ripe kiwi will yield slightly to gentle pressure. If it feels too soft, it might be overripe
