Description
This delicious, creamy Protein Hot Chocolate (30 grams of protein!) is made with protein powder and only takes 5 minutes to make.
Ingredients
1 1/2 - 2 cups milk (you can use dairy or plant-based milk like almond, soy, or oat milk)
1 scoop (40 g) of your favorite protein powder, of course, chocolate is best!
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tablespoon sweetener of your choice such as honey, maple syrup, or a sugar substitute (optional)
A pinch of salt (optional)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
whipped cream or marshmallows for topping (optional)
Instructions
- Heat the Milk: In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it's warm but not boiling. Alternatively, you can heat the milk in the microwave.
- Add Cocoa and Protein Powder: Once the milk is warm, whisk in the cocoa powder and protein powder. Continue whisking until the powders are fully dissolved into the milk.
- Sweeten to Taste: Add your sweetener of choice, adjusting the amount to your taste preferences. Remember, the protein powder might already be sweetened, so taste before adding too much sweetener.
- Add Flavorings (Optional): Stir in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt if desired. These ingredients can enhance the flavor of your hot chocolate.
- Blend or Froth (Optional): If you have a blender or a milk frother, you can blend the mixture for a creamier texture and to incorporate air, making it frothy.
- Serve: Pour the hot chocolate into your favorite mug. Top with whipped cream or marshmallows if you like
- Enjoy: Sip and enjoy your protein-packed hot chocolate! Cheers to a cozy cup of health and happiness!
Notes
Choose High-Quality Protein Powder: The quality of your protein powder is the foundation of a great protein hot chocolate. Opt for chocolate whey protein or a well-reviewed vegan protein powder.
Use Unsweetened Cocoa Powder: Unsweetened cocoa powder enhances the chocolatey goodness without the added sugars. This lets you control the sweetness level and keeps your hot chocolate healthier.
Experiment with Milk Alternatives: While regular whole milk is a popular choice, you can experiment with other milk alternatives, such as oat milk or almond milk.
Heat Gradually Over Medium Heat: Patience is key when preparing Protein Hot Chocolate. Heating the mixture gradually over medium heat ensures a smooth and creamy texture without the risk of burning or clumping.
Sweeten: Be cautious with sweeteners. Maple syrup, honey, or stevia are great options to add sweetness without compromising the health benefits. Start with a small amount and adjust to your taste preference.
Can I make it a bit fancier? Get creative! Top it with a dollop of coconut whipped cream, sprinkle with cinnamon or nutmeg, or add a few chocolate shavings. Experimenting with toppings can add a touch of fanciness to your Protein Hot Chocolate.
