🥄 Ingredients needed and substitutions
For exact measurements, scroll down to the printable recipe card.
MARSHMALLOWS: Use large, fluffy marshmallows for easy dipping. Mini marshmallows are a little trickier to work with, so I recommend the larger ones for this recipe.
CHOCOLATE: Milk chocolate is my favourite for these chocolate dipped marshmallows, but dark or white chocolate works beautifully too. Choose good-quality chocolate that melts smoothly.
COCONUT OIL (OPTIONAL): A small amount of coconut oil can help thin melted chocolate, making it easier to dip your marshmallows and achieve a smooth coating.
SPRINKLES OR CRUSHED NUTS: Here's where the fun begins! Use colourful sprinkles, chocolate vermicelli, crushed peanuts, or even shredded coconut to decorate your marshmallow pops.
LOLLIPOP STICKS: These make dipping and decorating much easier. You can also use wooden skewers or paper straws suitable for food.

🥳 More topping ideas
The best part about making these chocolate dipped marshmallows is decorating them! Get creative with different toppings, colours and textures. Here are a few of my favourites:
- Crushed cookies: Oreos, Biscoff cookies or graham crackers add a delicious crunch.
- Shredded coconut: Perfect for a tropical twist.
- Mini chocolate chips: Because there's no such thing as too much chocolate!
- Coloured sugar: Add a little sparkle for birthdays and celebrations.
- Crushed nuts: Try peanuts, almonds or pistachios for extra crunch.
- Freeze-dried strawberries: A pretty pink topping with a fruity flavour.
- Rainbow sprinkles: My favourite for making these marshmallow pops extra fun for kids!
Tip from my kitchen: Add your toppings while the chocolate is still wet so they stick properly. Once the chocolate sets, the decorations won't stay in place as easily.

How to make Chocolate Dipped Marshmallows
1. Prepare Your Supplies
Line a baking tray with parchment paper. Gather your marshmallows, chocolate, lollipop sticks and favourite toppings.
2. Melt the Chocolate
Place the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 20–30-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth and melted. Alternatively, melt the chocolate using a double boiler.
3. Prepare the Marshmallow Pops
Gently insert a lollipop stick halfway into each marshmallow, making sure it is secure.
4. Dip the Marshmallows
Hold each marshmallow by its stick and dip it into the melted chocolate. Gently rotate until evenly coated, allowing any excess chocolate to drip back into the bowl.
5. Add Your Toppings
While the chocolate is still wet, decorate with colourful sprinkles, crushed nuts, shredded coconut or your favourite toppings.
6. Allow the Chocolate to Set
Place the chocolate dipped marshmallows onto the prepared baking tray. Leave at room temperature until the chocolate hardens, or refrigerate for approximately 10–15 minutes to speed things up.

📝 Tips and Tricks
Use Good-Quality Chocolate: Choose your favourite milk, dark or white chocolate. Good-quality chocolate melts more smoothly and gives your chocolate dipped marshmallows a delicious finish.
Don't Overheat the Chocolate: Melt the chocolate in short 20–30-second bursts in the microwave, stirring between each interval. Overheating can cause the chocolate to become thick, grainy or burnt.
Add a Little Coconut Oil: If your melted chocolate is too thick for dipping, stir in a small amount of coconut oil until smooth. This makes coating the marshmallows much easier.
Keep the Marshmallows on Their Sticks: If your marshmallow pops keep sliding off, dip the tip of each lollipop stick into melted chocolate before inserting it into the marshmallow. Allow the chocolate to set before dipping the entire marshmallow.
Decorate While the Chocolate Is Wet: Add your sprinkles, crushed nuts or coconut flakes immediately after dipping. Once the chocolate hardens, the toppings won't stick properly.
Use Parchment Paper: Place your decorated marshmallows on a parchment-lined baking tray to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
Chill for Faster Setting: Pop your chocolate covered marshmallows into the refrigerator for approximately 10–15 minutes to help the chocolate set. Avoid leaving them in the fridge unnecessarily, as condensation can affect the chocolate's appearance.

❓FAQS
Most traditional marshmallows contain gelatin, so they aren't vegan. However, you can use vegan marshmallows and dairy-free chocolate to make this recipe vegan-friendly.
Absolutely! You can make chocolate dipped marshmallows without sticks. Simply use a fork to dip each marshmallow into the melted chocolate, allow the excess to drip off, and place it on parchment paper to set.
Keep all bowls and utensils completely dry, as even a small amount of water can cause melted chocolate to seize. Melt the chocolate slowly in 20–30-second microwave intervals, stirring between each interval to prevent overheating.
Chocolate dipped marshmallows are best enjoyed within 3–5 days. Store them in an airtight container in a cool, dry place to keep the marshmallows soft and the chocolate coating firm.

🍫 Make-Ahead and Storage
MAKE-AHEAD: Chocolate dipped marshmallows are perfect for preparing ahead of parties, birthdays and special occasions! Make them 1–2 days in advance and store them in an airtight container in a cool, dry place until you're ready to serve.
STORAGE: Store leftover chocolate dipped marshmallows in an airtight container at cool room temperature for up to 3–5 days. Keep them away from direct sunlight and heat to prevent the chocolate from melting. Refrigeration is best avoided unless your kitchen is particularly warm, as condensation can affect the chocolate coating.
